Sensitive scalp: daily head care

When hair thins, the scalp becomes exposed for the first time. What was protected by hair now becomes sensitive to friction, cold, sun, and dryness.
Here are the most common issues, and what can be done practically.
Friction
This is the primary source of discomfort. A rough collar, a hat seam, a slightly coarse cotton pillowcase: these are all repeated minor aggressions.
- Prefer smooth fabrics for direct skin contact: satin, silk, fine jersey.
- Check the seams of your head accessories—a thick seam on the forehead always ends up leaving a mark.
- At night, a satin pillowcase significantly reduces friction. This is the simplest change, and often the most appreciated.
Temperature
We underestimate how much hair insulates. Without it, your head gets cold much faster—even indoors, and especially at night.
Many women sleep with a soft cap for this reason, not just for modesty. Conversely, in summer or in an overheated room, a material that is too thick causes sweating, which in turn irritates. Having a light model and a more covering model solves the problem.
Sun
This is the most important and most neglected point. A bald scalp no longer has any natural protection, and it burns quickly—even on cloudy days.
As soon as you go outside: always wear something on your head. An opaque fabric turban is sufficient; an open-knit or very thin fabric allows UV rays to pass through. If you stay outside for a long time, suitable sun protection on exposed areas is a useful addition—ask your pharmacist for advice on a product suited to your situation.

Hydration and washing
A scalp without hair dries out and can feel tight or flake.
- Space out shampoos and use a very gentle product, without harsh sulfates.
- Wash with lukewarm water, never hot.
- Dry by patting, without rubbing.
Be cautious with oils and "regrowth" treatments. Many products promise to regrow hair. If you are undergoing treatment, always ask your medical team for their opinion before applying anything: some substances interact with treatments or irritate already fragile skin. We are not healthcare providers and do not recommend any such products.
The regrowth period
When hair grows back, it is often fine, sometimes of a different texture or color. This is a phase where many women feel "in-between": no longer completely without hair, not yet styled.
The turban remains useful at this time: it covers without flattening, and it avoids having to justify a haircut that was not chosen. Prefer smooth materials then, which do not catch short hair.
What really helps, deep down
No accessory solves what you are going through. But not having to think about it every morning, having something comfortable and pretty at hand, lightens an already heavy mental load.
Our pre-tied models are gathered in the Soft Turbans — Fragile Hair & Regrowth collection. See also: how to choose your turban well and how to put it on effortlessly.
